My favourite apartment

I’ve recently changed the text on my Home page… given that it formerly described all of the apartments as being “recently” renovated. Time flies when you’re having fun, and it recently occurred to me that my first reno… the one-bedroom plus den unit in Cabbagetown… was renovated almost eighteen years ago.

Nonetheless, we’re always finding ways to make improvements and modernize, so this month after the former tenants bought a home of their own (after more than six years at Grace’s Places) we took the unit out of service for a few weeks for a mini-makeover… new bamboo flooring in the living room, a new countertop, sink and faucet, new doors on the kitchen cabinets, a new dishwasher and new faucets in the bathroom.

The apartment was originally designed by the owner-architect in 1975 and it retains its mid-century modern, open concept character. (The only doors in the apartment are on the bathroom).

The porthold between the kitchen and the stair to the upper level gives the apartment a "moderne" feel.

The sunroom overlooks a huge and private roof deck.

The bathroom is located between the sunroom and the bedroom and can be accessed from either room.

The bedroom has wall-to-wall cloests with mirrored doors. Very '70's.

Originally the skylit bathroom had a 6' diameter round hot-tub whirlpool. This has been replaced with a deep acrylic soaker tub (a "tub for two") and a separate shower.
